FAQ, Tips and Tricks

In this post we summarized the most frequently questions asked by Fast Blog Finder users and our answers to them. At the same time we give useful tips and recommendations on how to get the most out of the program.

Q. While the program does find lots of blogs, most of them do not post my comment. Why is this?

A. It seems blog moderators consider your comments to be irrelevant to the post subject or think you submit a comment to get a link back only. You should look at other comments on the blog first to understand what kind of comments are approved. Pay attention to the names of other commentators. If you see they use names without keywords, do the same because the blog moderator may not allow comments with keywords in the name field. So, look at what others do and do the same. And the second reason why your comments are not approved may be that you submit comments to high PR blogs only. High PR blogs get a huge amount of spam so webmasters moderate comments like crazy on those blogs. Your comment must be really valuable and worth-while to be approved. So, don't limit yourself to high PR blogs only. Find relevant blogs with a lower PR and submit comments to them. There is a great chance your comment will be approved and you'll get a good back link.

Q. What do I type as "Name"? Do I need to enter my real name, or a nick, or my keywords? What is better?

A. Before posting a comment, I would recommend that look at other people's comments and see what names they used. If others used only their nicknames without keywords, you will do the right thing to follow this rule. Probably the blog admin doesn't allow the use of keywords in the names for comments. Or, maybe you could enter your name as "John from mobile phones" or "John – mobile phones" or the like. Or, if someone used only the keywords and the comment was approved, you may think about doing the same.

Q. Why are the majority of blogs Fast Blog Finder returns NoFollow?

A. The free of Fast Blog Finder version is limited to show only 50 blogs for each search query. So, if you use the free version, it seems there are no DoFollow blogs for your keywords among the first 50 results.

After upgrading to the Gold edition of Fast Blog Finder, you will get much more blogs for your keywords. Most likely there will be DoFollow and Mixed blogs in search results. See the difference between the Free and Gold editions

Q. Why are most of the blog posts the program finds not related to my search term?

A. Fast Blog Finder uses search engines (Google and Yahoo) to find blogs. Although you think that the posts are irrelevant, a search engine considered them as relevant to your search query. Your keywords can be not only in the article but in URLs on the page, or in the comments section.

Using this cheat sheet, you can try different search queries in Fast Blog Finder to improve or refine your search results. And try to put your search phrase in quotes to get more relevant results.

Plus, you can select the Top 10 Results from the Start menu when you start the search. You will get less blogs in the result but those blogs will be the most relevant ones for your keywords. And remember that a link is a link. Even if you get a link from a blog that is not very relevant to your niche, it's better than not link at all.

Q. After using the "Detect Type" option Unknown blogs still remain as Unknown. Why?

A. If the blog remains as Unknown, it's impossible to determine its type because it has no comments or no links in comments. You will know if the blog is DoFollow or NoFollow only after at least one comment (maybe yours) is approved.

Note: In the 3 version of Fast Blog Finder you don't need to use the "Detect Type" option after the search is complete. This version performs the deep scan (scans the latest 10 posts on the blog) automatically during the search.  You can use the "Detect Type" option after you load your own list of blogs or add links manually to the list which will be shown as Unknown.

Q. The "Check my Comments" feature puts a red face for some posts, but my comment was there and approved. What happens?

A. A red face in the Approved column means that the comment is approved and has a NoFollow tag. A green icon means the comment is approved and has a DoFollow tag. A yellow face in the status bar shows the total of approved comments within the current list.

If the comment is not yet approved, you will see no icon in the Approved column.

Q. On some blogs I get a blank screen after submitting a comment. Was the comment sent to a moderator?

A. This is related to the blog theme where you submit a comment. If the theme is not properly configured, you may see a blank page after clicking the "Submit" button.

Fast Blog Finder uses the Internet Explorer engine to open the pages in the Preview pane. If the submission in Fast Blog Finder was unsuccessful and you got a blank screen, copy the post URL, open it in any other browser, for example, Mozilla Firefox, and try to submit a comment. If you still get nothing, so the blog theme is not correctly configured. Just skip this blog because you can do nothing about it.

Q. Is there a way to tell the program to search for "DoFollow" blogs only?

A. No, there is no way to tell the program to return only DoFollow blogs. You'll see the blogs of all types – DoFollow, NoFollow, MIXED, and Unknown – among the search results. After the search is complete, you can filter the blogs by type and separate only DoFollow blogs. To filter the blogs, click a down arrow in the Type field heading and select DoFollow.

I have something to add that I have tested many of times, if you get a blank white screen after you comment on a wordpress blog, your URL has been thrown in the Akisment spam folder. I know this for a fact as I have tested this and is not something I read somewhere else. All you have to do is contact Akisment and explain your situation, and they will pull you out of the spam folder. I had this happen today I emailed them, and they fixed the problem within a couple of hours and I was able to comment under that URL again.

Also some keywords may bring up the white screen also, if you are not in their folder already. As in this post if you add a Dave from keyword you may avoid this. I am not sure that this is done by akisment plugin or not though, I know the URL is though.

So if you keep seeing that white screen of death after you comment, that URL is in Akisment and you will have to contact them to get it out. If you are a spammer, they will know it, it only takes a couple of spam clicks to get you in there, if they see a couple thousand, you might not get out unless you can do some serious B.S.ing

FAQ, tips and tricks in blog post is really good but I like the comment of Dave. Dave Explained why blank white screen comes after the comment. It is due from Akisment plugin. My no comment in wordpress blog is approved due to this thing. I am very thankful to Dave who gives solution of this problem also.

    Hi Julia,

I wonder if you have or are going to have a version for the Mac.

The number of people using Mac are growing fast and I think they’d appreciate your Fast Blog Finder very much.

    I know I would.

So true about checking first what other commenters used as names. It goes to the idea that different blogs have different rules, both written and unwritten. Some blogs are more like free for alls, where almost any name is acceptable, not just nicknames, but even names of products or services, or other clearly non-human names. Other blogs are much more strict, however, and more focused on developing relationships among people, which is why they require that people use nicknames, similar to the ones we use in real life. Sometimes, it’s the unwritten rules which prevent comments from coming through.
