In this report I summarized my almost 10-year experience in the Internet marketing. I am going to share with you most common Internet marketing mistakes that you are probably trying to do now. In this report you will find useful tips on what to start from, how to organize your general marketing strategy, and how to do things to succeed.

If you are serious about your online business, you need to learn something new every day and be aware of what works in the Internet marketing today. This report doesn’t sell you anything, it’s not stuffed with links but it will have an impact on your Internet marketing career. You just need to realize what the mistakes are, learn from them and try to avoid them in the future.

So, let’s begin…

Mistake #1. Everybody is selling the same products.

As every market the Internet market abounds in products from competing companies or individual sellers. This affluence of similar products makes it more and more difficult to satisfy fastidious customers and generate sales.

So, the best way to succeed is to have your own online business and sell the product that is unique in its kind. Having your unique products provides you with a great opportunity to enhance your online business and profits by attracting JV partners or affiliates. You’ll want to make sure your affiliate program works reliably and then you just need one person who will promote your product to the rest of Internet users. Only one person – that’s enough to start. Then you take the results (your first affiliate’s testimonials, feedbacks, reports) and use them to approach other potential JV partners. As far as your affiliate list grows, your products get more exposure and you benefit from more sales and revenue.

But what if you don’t have your own unique product? How will you attract customers? The key to survive in the strict competition is to be different, stand out from the crowd and do what others don’t do. Let’s imagine you have 10 e-books on dog training or health & fitness and you’re selling online each book separately. But there are hundreds or even thousands of similar e-books on the Internet. So, why people should buy from you and not from your competitor? Just think how you can present your products. What if you collect all 10 e-books in one package, give a new title to that package and offer it with 10% discount? Your competitor didn’t think about it? So, be the first. Or, make a bundle from your software tools and sell the bundle under a new title.

Basically, you sell the same products as before but you do this in a different way than your competitor does. Even if your visitors do not purchase your product at once, they are likely to remember you because you’re not like others and they can return to you at a later time.

The bottom line: If you want to make money from a product, you have to be creative and do things that others don’t do. The biggest key in the Internet marketing is just to do a little more work than anybody else, have a unique product nobody sells and have a unique pre-sale program for the product.

To continue …

I understand if you are creating a new product it makes sense to be individual and try to be unique. However I have received mixed messages when promoting other people’s products as an affiliate.

I have read various ideas recently. Some people say to promote a product that not too many people are promoting and try to dominate the market, other people say go where the competition is because there you will find what sells.

I have had most success with small niches that others may not have thought of.

Internet is still regarded as a source of information gathering for the majority of your customers. .. Of the number of visitors to your site, the vast majority of visitors who are motivated to buy will do so in person.. Many people prefer the live interaction when they buy.. If you have a small business with one location, this may deter customers from buying…

One of the biggest mistakes is i my oppinion, that SEO and Online-Marketing is beeing sold as a “product in a dark box”. The custumors are held stupied and uniformed – due to the fear to make them to smart!

Unfortunately, it’s not always possible to have a unique product, indeed – when I go buy gas, I don’t expect a unique product, when I buy food, I’m not necessarily expecting something unique… if I buy soap, the brand may differ – but it’s all soap.

What seems to work is the branding, not the product. If you ‘brand’ yourself as friendlier, more helpful, or something that others aren’t doing – then you’ll make sales.

Or market in a way that others aren’t doing – such as direct response marketing – which people have seemed to forget now that the Internet is so pervasive.

    Hi!
Thanks for the great article, there is a lot to learn from others “mistakes”. I think you nailed it on the head when you say that the product should be unique. As you also mentioned, that is not always possible, however the way you market it can always be unique. Cause controversy, go over the edge, challenge people… i think people are so afraid of being “bad” that they will never stand out from the pack.

Very good first ‘mistake’. Although I must admit, at the start of the post, I did start to feel a little uncomfortable (but that’s a good thing – you’ve made me re-think).

I’ve started looking at my various niches with this exact mindset: Finding out what my competitors are doing with their products and then re-packaging mine to set myself apart from them. Thanks for the tips and the resounding bottom line:

‘The biggest key in the Internet marketing is just to do a little more work than anybody else, have a unique product nobody sells and have a unique pre-sale program for the product.’

    Excellent.

I totally agree with you, having a well defined and unique product offering is the key to success in any market. If you are selling the same thing as everyone else, you need to at a minimum find a way to sell it that sets you apart, whether it’s pricing and being a price leader, or highlighting the benefits of the product in a way that has not been done. Doing more of the same will result in poor sales.

Jumping in head first, not doing your keyword research, spending a fortune on PPC without researching conversion rates. Wow, the list just goes on. It’s a game of experience and it is going to take anyone a year of trial and error before getting good.

In regards to your number one mistake: “Everybody is selling the same products,” I do agree but also have a different angel to add.

Market research is probably the most important part of the marketing process, online and off.

There is no doubt that starting an online business in a market where there are already numerous sites selling the exact same thing is difficult to say the least, and in some cases could be virtually impossible to enter, assuming you don’t have millions in capital to work with.

However, some competition is necessary for a successful business, in my experience. You usually want at least some competition in your market, because that is the best indication that there is a market to begin with. You should only be discouraged if there are many other business selling the same product.

Indeed a great post about internet marketing mistakes.

I am glad that you have covered the major internet marketing mistakes which almost every internet marketers do.

Internet marketing is the best way of making money online and the best part about it is, It allow internet marketers to earn with few but potential visitors. We don’t need huge amount of traffic to earn. We only need 10 targeted visitors who can purchase the product.

The most common mistake which internet marketers make is, they promote so many products at once without having any experience with them.

To earn more, internet marketers pick every high paying product and start promoting them but don’t get any sales from them because they don’t focus on each product correctly that’s why they are unable to makes sales.

Every successful internet marketer suggest to promote only those products which you have personally used.

I would like to thank you for sharing such a great piece of content. 😀
